Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1)

When sixteen-year-old Tessa Gray arrives in England during the reign of Queen Victoria, something terrifying is waiting for her in London's Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gaslit streets. Friendless and hunted, Tessa seeks refuge with the Shadowhunters, a band of warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons. Drawn ever deeper into their world, she finds herself fascinated by - and torn between - two best friends and quickly realises that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

My thoughts:

I'm really beginning to think I'll love anything by Cassandra Clare and for good reason - she's such a fantastic writer.

Clockwork Angel was really no exception - just as I loved the Mortal Instrument series I love this one so far. It immediately captured my full attention from the first line and I fell instantly in love with the book in general, never mind the characters and story line.

The characters of Clockwork Angel were quite different to those of the Mortal Instruments series and yet pretty similar at the same time. They all had completely different personalities, especially Henry, he was amazing - he constantly made me laugh every time he appeared and was so endearing. Will of course has to be my favourite character with his bad boy attitude - I also loved Jem though. He was really refreshing to read with his all his charm and because of how amazingly sweet he was throughout the whole read.

The plot had me on edge the whole time. It wasn't at all like the Mortal Instruments in that respect - Clockwork Angel had a level of intensity I've never read before: it was really dark in places and coupled with the settings, it made for an enthralling read. I loved it!

As for the writing, it was faultless. I haven't read anything by any other author that allows me to imagine everything going on in such detail. I know quite a few people dislike incredibly descriptive writing because it seems to drag everything out a little but I don't think it is when it's just so well done. It's literally like watching a great film in your head and reading whilst doing so - great combination in my opinion.

At the risk of sounding redundant, I seriously can't recommend this book enough. It has everything a good read should have and then some. Please, please, please pick it up.

My rating:  10/10

I adore the Infernal Devices! I'm desperately pining for "Clockwork Princess", but I'm also a bit sad since it will mark the end of the series.

I've only read City of Bones & I really liked it! And I'm glad to hear that the ID series is even better! I love darker reads, so I think I'll love this one.
Great review! ^__^
